Hopeful English School

Education Creates Futures – We're Giving a School Its Future Back.

The First Day of School

Today, on Monday, 15 June, we welcomed our youngest students, aged 4 to 6, for their very first day at school.

For some of the children, the start was a little overwhelming, but by the end of the day, smiles had replaced uncertainty. Now the focus is on establishing daily routines and building a strong foundation for the school's future.

The First Parents' Meeting

Before our youngest students, aged 4 to 6, began their first day of school on Monday, 15 June, we held an information meeting with their parents to explain how the school would operate and what they could expect.

The excitement isn't limited to the children. For many parents—especially mothers—the school provides invaluable support. Knowing that their children are not only learning but are also safe and well cared for each morning allows them to focus on their daily responsibilities without having to watch over their children all the time.

The Furniture Has Arrived – Student Registration Is Underway

With the arrival of the classroom furniture, everything is in place for the school to open in mid-June. Registration of our first students is now underway, and the children have already enjoyed their first trial lessons.

Everyone is excited and looking forward to the first day of school!

Only the Furniture Needs to be Delivered – Then We're Ready to Welcome Our Students

The finishing touches have been completed: minor repairs have been made, and the entire school has been thoroughly cleaned and prepared.

For our youngest learners, we have created a cosy reading and play corner with rugs and cushions where they can begin learning English through play. The only thing still missing for the older students is the remaining classroom furniture. Once it arrives, everything will be ready for lessons to begin.

The Washrooms Are Complete and the Painting Is Finished

The painting has now been completed throughout the school. The toilets and washrooms have been tiled, and all sanitary facilities have been installed.

With the interior work now finished, the final tasks outside the building can be completed. Once the furniture has arrived, everything will be ready for the official opening of the school.

The Painting Is Nearly Complete

The painting work is almost finished, and the lights have now been installed. Outside, everything is prepared for the gravel to be laid.

The next step is tiling the toilets and washrooms, followed by the final coat of paint in those areas.

The Finishing Touches Begin

Most of the major work has now been completed. The buildings have been restored, and both the electrical system and the water supply have been repaired.

Now it's time for the finishing touches. All buildings are being repainted inside and out before the sanitary facilities are installed.

The School Is Taking Shape, Step by Step

It is a great joy to watch this school take shape, step by step. What is especially inspiring is the dedication and enthusiasm with which the local craftsmen are bringing this project to life.

Some things may be done a little differently from what they are used to, but it is precisely this combination of local traditions and European standards that makes this project so special.

Together, We Are Building Futures

The Hopeful English School is currently being renovated step by step to provide children—and adults—with a safe, clean, and inspiring place to learn.

Classrooms are being restored, walls repaired, and learning spaces prepared, all with one goal: to give every student better opportunities for the future.

Many of our students come from families where access to education cannot be taken for granted. That is why it is so important to provide them with a place where they can learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.

The photos show some impressions of the ongoing renovation work. Every step forward is only possible because of people who believe in this project and choose to support it.

We are deeply grateful to every donor whose generosity is helping this school grow. Your support means far more than new walls or renovated classrooms—it means hope, education, and new opportunities for the next generation.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

The Project

The Hopeful English School was founded in 2005 to provide free English lessons for children. It quickly became an important place of learning and opportunity for many young people. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, the school had to close its doors in 2015.

Today, Malaki Thompson-Akyoo, the founder's son, together with Marion, is working to restore the school and bring it back to life.

How Your Donation Helps

  • Restore two classrooms
  • Renovate the toilets and washrooms
  • Install new doors, repair the roof, and repaint the buildings
  • Purchase new classroom furniture
  • Fund a teacher's salary
  • Provide tea and porridge for 50 children

Our goal: Reopening the school in 2026.
